About Us

My photo
We are the Pomario Family and we used to live in Johannesburg, South Africa. On the 10 July 2009 at 8.05 our little family grew to 3 when our precious daughter Natalia was born. We were blessed that she had chosen us to be her parents and we were privileged to have her in our lives. We believe she is here to teach us many lessons and give us plenty of joy. We relocated to Australia in April 2011. These are our stories……

Measles

9 months old today !!!

all dressed up 'cause I went to Jack's birthday party

I love to swing

I took Natalia for her measles vaccination today and she was really good..... shame the little pumpkin hardly cried and just let out a small moan. Other than that she now has 2 teeth. 1 on top and 1 at the bottom. The other bottom one just has not appeared. Yesterday we went to Moms & Babes and she rolled over and sat up on her own. She's still not crawling, but goes onto her knees and rocks backwards and forwards. She also went for her 9month visit on Monday with the paed, a different paed. She was seeing Dr. Verster but now we've changed to Dr. Neethling, who is a much better at communicating.

3 months to go and Miss Muffet turns 1, I cant believe it!

In & Out

Fantastic news, something I need to share! So today is a peculiar day……… it's what I call Natalia’s EQUAL Day………. Ughh, you say. Well today she is 38.6 weeks old, exactly the amount of time she spent in my ‘belly’ before she was welcomed into the world……… lol, so today Natalia has been Out as long as she was In.

Easter Has Come and Gone

Yeah, this is cool

Standing in my new cot

Having fun with my cousin Malakai in my playroom

Yummy, enjoying my biscuit with Daddy

Baby-Jail........

Easter has come and gone for 2010, next year will be more exiting as Natalia will be able to participate in a egg hunt and be able to eat chocolate….

Natalia is doing so many new things – she now stands holding herself up, although very wobbly still – she is pulling her knees underneath her and rocking in preparation for crawling – she has started clapping her hands and loves to do it over and over – she is moving all over in her cot and I find her in the weirdest positions now in the morning. Her top 2 middle teeth are on their way, however she only still has 1 bottom tooth, its partner nowhere in sight yet? All this teeth cutting is sore and she moans a lot, shame poor pumpkin.

She is also eating a lot of new things. For lunch she has a slice of brown bread with hummus, her favourite. She also likes French toast and normal toast with a host of toppings including avo, cream cheese, mozzarella cheese, egg yolk.

Kim also finally dropped Natalia’s cot as I have visions of her falling out now that she is such a busy body – my mind can at least be at ease now knowing that she safe in there till I fetch her. She also loves her playroom or as we have dubbed it ‘baby-jail’, lol.

FINALLY

As the image above states, tooth no.1 is on its way. It started making its appearance on Friday 20th already and its still only halfway out ...... how long do they take to be out fully.
Natalia has been taking the pain in her stride, but I think the teething necklace I bought her is definitely helping. She is waking up more during the night, but I don't think we have it that bad - yet anyway.

Rocking & Rolling

Surfs up

Check me out Mom

I must crawl through what?

Oh I love grapes

Well Natalia is doing fantastically this week. She is starting to get into the crawling position, but then flops onto her tummy. She is spending hours on her tummy now, when she used to hate it. She rolls from tummy to back to tummy to back and we sometimes find her on the other side of her play room when not looking. Today we went to Moms & Babes and she rolled to the other side, but didnt want to come back - she has found her freedom! Cute!

And, her teeth are still eluding us... the buggers have still not emerged. She also started eating more complex meals this week, adding chicken, mince and fish to her diet. Mmm she just loves it! I hope to start her on pasta as soon as I can find little pasta shapes...... where do you get them?
Kim is away on business in Cape Town for 2 nights and will be home tomorrow night.... with lots of pressies and goodies I hope. He is not allowed to go away that long without bringing gifts!

Natalia Is 8 Months Old Today!!!

Gee, out little angel is 8 months old today – and still no teeth! I know they’re coming – I’ve never heard of a toothless toddler.

Natalia is growing very fast and now weighs close to 10kg. We are very lucky as she’s been sleeping through just about every night in the last week. She does wake up, but it’s a matter of giving her a bit of water and putting her dummy in. if she wakes again, I turn her over and she sleeps on her tummy till morning. Kim and I have our routine down to pat. I do all the getting up until 4am and he does the rest. Weekends are the best as I get to sleep until 7.30am.

Natalia is also eating a lot more kinds of food:
Veggies – butternut, carrots, gem squash, marrow, patty pans, sweet potato
Fruit – apples, pears, prunes, nectarines, banana, avo, grapes, watermelon,
Cereal and yoghurt
I can’t wait until she is eating what we eat. Preparing her food is a lot of work!

So in just 4 months time, little miss is turning 1! These last 8 months have been the most challenging, exciting, daunting and inexplicably happy months ever in our lives. You can’t expect someone to imagine it if they don’t have children.

Natalia Meets Harlan

Natalia and cuz Harlan

sneaking a ride on Malakai's wheels

Natalia was introduced to her new cousin for the 1st time today, she just loves babies...... She didn't get to interact with him much, but I'm sure they will be playing up a storm in a couple of months time.

Otherwise, Natalia is doing very well. She is much much better and her mystery virus bug seems to be dead! Gee, she really gave us a scare. She still has a lingering ear infection, even after all those antibiotics. We are glad that our little girl is almost 100%.

Our Holiday That Went Haywire

I dont like this hotel they keep putting things into me !!

My daily workout - wrestling with Hippoboy and yes that is my foot they stuck a needle into !!!

Hey everyone - look what they have done to my other hand

Feeling much better thanks !!

So who changed the plans? Obviously a higher power decided that we weren’t supposed to carry on with our holiday to the Drakensberg…….we were supposed to go to the Central Berg for 4 nights, but Natalia had different plans install for us.

After leaving PE we spent a night at a game farm near the Addo Elephant Park. Natalia woke up last Friday morning with a temperature of 38.2 deg. Immediately I was worried as I don’t believe there are any good hospitals in Umtata if the need arose. We went to a GP in King Williams Town and she gave us over the counter medication to give her, saying that it was nothing serious. We monitored her the whole time and once again on the Saturday morning her temperature was up. We were on our way to Uvongo now to spend 2 nights with my Mom and a friend of hers. Saturday was also Kim’s birthday so we went out for a quick dinner but Natalia temperature was still 38 deg. so we watched her like a hawk. She had a very restless night and finally fell asleep at 1.30 in the morning……..

Sunday morning, Valentines Day, at 4.30 Kim measured her temperature at 39.9 deg. We were out of there like a shot, and to the nearest hospital in Margate, luckily 5kms up the road. She was immediately admitted – and so our holiday took a different turn…..

Natalia is still in hospital and is expected to be discharged tomorrow. It was difficult to diagnose her at first. Her blood results revealed that her infection count was 138, where it should be under 5. None of the intravenous antibiotics she was given were working. A 2nd blood result indicated that her infection count had risen to 178 on Tuesday and she was finally given an ultra strong antibiotic drip which did the trick. She had pneumonia, bladder and kidney infections, ear nose and throat infections and tonsillitis! Just about her whole body is an infection. Finally on Thursday, the 3rd blood count result was better with a count of 45. We think she acquired the Super Virus Bug when we took her to UNITAS when Harlan was born. Although she didn’t go into the ward, she did go into the hospital. Super Bugs bread in hospitals……

So now Natalia is just finishing her course of intravenous antibiotics and we will be on our way home!! I’m sad we didn’t get to the Drakensberg, but we were not meant to go… Someone up there had different plans for us and we are thankful that our little girl is okay. We will be seeing the Drakensberg in April again.

Thanks to everyone for the prayers and well wishes….

Regards, The Pomario Family
